Meet Jeffrey Wu

Q: What do you do and how long have you been involved activity and health?

A: Throughout my life, I have been involved in competitive badminton and have only recently started to branch out into other sports, such as Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Rowing. I hope to continue my exploration in new activities to gain new perspectives and meet more people! I currently volunteer with an individual who has been in a traumatic incident, where I do supervise his exercise routine in hopes to physically rehabilitate his potential to walk. I have just started my co-op work term at Le Physique as a Client Care Manager and Cardio Trainer.

Q: What inspired you to do what you do?

A: Before post-secondary, I was amazed by the mentality and athletic ability of professional athletes, thus I chose Kinesiology to learn more about human movement and methods to achieve optimal performance. By being a part of the Kinesiology program at UBC, I now hope to create an everlasting impact within the community by emphasizing the importance of prioritizing overall health through adequate nutrition and exercise to ‘unlock’ one’s complete and hidden potential.

Q: What are your favourite things about fitness / Kinesiology?

A: My favourite thing about fitness/Kinesiology is being able to help others progress towards their personalized goals. I admire how progression consistently tests and challenges one’s patience, consisting of good and not-so-good progressive days.

Q: Outside of work, where can people most often find you?

A: Trying to find the creamiest and smoothest ramen broths in ramen restaurants in the Lower Mainland or walking by the water!

Q: Favourite hobby?

A: Learning how to play soundtracks on the piano or saxophone, especially from Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.

Q: What’s your favourite music?

A: I tend to have many musical transitional phases. I am currently obsessed with country music, but I am open to all genres of music, except for rock and metal.

Q: What’s your favourite exercises?

A: Bulgarian lunges and sprints. I enjoy feeling light on my feet after completing these movements.

Q: What are 3 things people don’t know about you?

I can easily tear up and bawl my eyes out during meaningful scenes in movies and TV shows.

If my friends don’t like a specific song that I enjoy, I will play it until they like the song, which usually works out (most of the time).

I find stall and lame jokes more funny than actual jokes.

Q: What did you want to be when you were growing up?

A: Airplane Pilot! I could travel the world by flying a plane!

Q: What’s your spirit animal?

A: Turtle. I hustle when necessary, but always pace myself and will stay really calm and grounded even in stressful situations.

Q: Favourite TV show?

A: Obviously, I can’t just choose one as different TV genres are not comparable, like apples and oranges, right? Currently, my top three TV series are Friends, Game of Thrones and The Flash.

Q: If you could be on any reality TV show what would it be?

A: Kitchen Nightmares

Q: Celebrity crush?

A: Emma Watson

Q: What’s your guilty pleasure?

A: Binge watching TV shows and movies, while eating food delivered from SkipTheDishes and UberEats.
