Choosing the right Vancouver private gym is a decision that will affect how successful you will be with achieving your fitness goals. If you’re serious about getting fit and becoming healthier, finding the right gym and personal trainer will make working out more fun and less of a chore.
But like all things in life, every prospective gym offers something different and unique. Some of them don’t have the right environment or the right type of personal trainers. Or it might just be that you don’t jive with that particular gym or their philosophy. In this blog post, we will show you what fitness options you have and how you should decide on the best gym for you.
What Are the Options?
There are many different types of gyms and workout centers you can choose from. You can do anything from group training sessions, spin class or yoga, you can even do kickboxing if that floats your boat. The point is that depending on your workout goals, you should choose the best option that fits you, your lifestyle and, of course, your budget.
You won’t be surprised that we’re impartial and believe hiring a private personal trainer is one of the best options, especially if you’re just starting out and are feeling unsure about the whole gym experience.
Many people just don’t like the gym but we’re going to challenge that perspective and invite you to try us out. We’ve been known to change the minds of even the people who most adamantly dislike the gym, which is part of the reason why we call our space a private studio, not a gym.
Perks of a Private Gym
The obvious benefit to a private gym is everything is completely customizable to you – your strengths and personality are taken into account. By having a personal trainer customize your workout, you will meet your fitness goals faster and easier than you would without a professional guiding you every step of the way.
A personal trainer can also introduce you to new routines, stretches, and exercises that will keep your workout fun and interesting, while ensuring that you continue to get more fit while staying safe so don’t injure yourself, which can significantly set back your fitness goals. They will also keep you motivated even when you’re having a tough day and help you keep on track.
The Downside of Corporate or “Big Box” Gyms
Why not just choose a large gym where you can come and go as you please? Well there are some downsides to these large, corporate gyms. For starters, you’re left to your own devices which of course can be both a blessing and a course.
These big-time fitness centers can seem cold and impersonal. While some of the staff hired are there to walk the floor, check on members and be available for help if you ask, their primary goal is not to be concerned about your fitness and bodybuilding goals, but to sell or upgrade your programs to include extra “perks.” The sales staff’s job is to “help” get you into a long-term contract so the facility can continue to make money, especially if you don’t attend. There’ve been countless cases of members who have been unable to cancel or are locked into a long-term contract.
There can often be high turnover in big gyms, and the friendly face that helped you today might not be there in a week or month. Due to the anonymity of the space, some members take advantage of systems and stay on cardio equipment for longer than the sharing rules outline, hoard weights or leave a big sweaty mess for others to clean up.
Everyone also has different personal space boundaries, but because they vary you could find someone doing bicep curls or lunges too close for comfort.
Big gyms are fantastic for people that enjoy the company of others, are extremely comfortable with their workout routines, have high self-motivation, want to make lots of new friends and love energetic pumping music. Often, the ambiance is less important, but how heavy the weights are or how much cardio equipment they have is a big seller. If the gym is 24 hours, some people even love working out at 2am!
Better Overall Experience
If you haven’t been to a small gym before, you’ll feel the difference once you step inside. Everything is unique; small gym owners add their personal touch throughout the facility. The vibe is different from that of a large and crowded fitness center.
Private gyms showcase the owner’s and team’s love for fitness and well-being by paying attention to the details. From knowing the name of everyone that walks through the front door (think “Cheers”) to having access to a tight-knit integrated team that treats you like a valued family member, you can tell that the client is the star of the show.
In contrast, chain gyms follow a universal look and feel in all their branches. So, when you visit a couple of those gyms from the same company, you won’t mistake them for other fitness centers. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but you don’t feel the pride or get the results of a private establishment.
